Green Meetings and Events
Decisions municipal staff make when planning meetings
or public events have direct and indirect environmental
consequences. If you make a checklist for yourself each
time you plan an event/meeting, it will become habit
to consider things that will make your event more environmentally
friendly.
Some things to think about include:
- how people get to the meeting (transit, carpool)
- how much solid waste is generated
- how much energy is consumed
- what quantity of air emissions are generated as
a result of the event.
Why consider green meetings and
events?
By choosing more creative and environmentally sensitive
approaches to your event planning and implementation,
your municipality will:
- potentially reduce the overall costs of your event
- show leadership in environmental responsibility
- set an example for other members of the community
- encourage more local businesses to improve their
environmental practices.
The information in this section will help you plan
an emissions-reduced event, meeting or conference.
